Created on vintage Berlin newspapers dating from 1974 to 1990, this work transforms fragments of Berlin’s history into a contemporary urban portrait. At its centre stands Glod’s signature character, the Pink Panther, reimagined as a rebellious Berlin figure. Having accompanied the artist throughout his career, the character becomes a recurring visual identity within Glod’s artistic universe.
The composition brings together key elements of Berlin’s cultural landscape: architecture, the Berlin Wall, automotive craftsmanship, music culture and everyday street life, including the familiar ritual of drinking from a bottle. The original newspaper pages function not merely as a background, but as a historical archive, connecting the city’s divided past and changing identity with the energy of its contemporary street culture.
Moving between Pop Art, Street Art and collage, Glod embraces a deliberately raw, irreverent and “dirty” aesthetic. Graffiti-like interventions, expressive colour and iconic imagery reject polished representations of the city in favour of something more authentic and spontaneous. The result is both a personal tribute to Berlin and a visual statement about its enduring spirit of freedom, rebellion and cultural reinvention.
