Part of Glod’s Modern Abstract series, this work was created for the Chinese market and incorporates subtle references to Chinese visual culture. The character 寿 (shou), meaning “longevity,” is traditionally used as an auspicious symbol wishing for a long and prosperous life.

Against a soft, atmospheric ground, Glod layers spontaneous marks, delicate gestures and abstract colour fields with these culturally significant signs. The work creates a dialogue between contemporary abstraction and traditional Chinese symbolism, transforming a universal visual language of gesture and colour into a personal artistic interpretation of China.
